Position: Driver

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Purpose:

Independent Adult Day Care Center’s programs are designed to meet the needs of elderly and disabled adults and their caregivers by providing cost-effective alternatives to nursing home or institutional care that promotes the member’s ability to remain independent.

The transportation driver is responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth and development while facilitating mutual aid/self-help skills among individuals. The transportation driver will run all aspects of the transportation routes and will complete all required documentation per safety and billing purposes.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate transport schedule and routes with Center AA

  • Assist passengers, including loading, securing and unloading of wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.

  • Ensure safety and comfort of all passengers transported by the center in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Familiarize self with vehicle, daily maintenance checks and report any repairs needed

  • Maintain good communication with the center as issues and questions arise

  • Reports all accidents, including personal injury or self/or passengers to the Director immediately

  • Report any traffic citations, accidents, or conviction or change in driver’s license status whether incurred during or outside of work

  • Maintains interior and exterior of the bus in a clean and cared for state

  • Maintain knowledge of on-going program issues and developments as well as informing supervisor of program issues and concerns.

  • Communicate in a professional manner.

  • Perform duties consistent with program and agency policies and procedures.

  • Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.

  • Remain alert at all times throughout scheduled work shift.

  • Participate in core training and maintain certification of required trainings.

  • Provide crisis intervention and access emergency services as needed.

  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.

  • Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Independent Adult Day Centers Human Rights Policy.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current driver’s license with auto insurance

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

  • Experience preferred driving a shuttle

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds

  • Ability to be timely, patient, and accommodating

  • Familiarity with the area preferred

  • Possess a positive attitude and ability to work with interdisciplinary team of professional

  • Qualifying criminal background and driving record

  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in certain areas of training including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, non-violent physical interventions, behavior management, medication administration, and driving

  • Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations

  • Ability to react to situations, i.e., rescue, preventing a resident from hurting themselves

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to use general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, telephones, etc. Housekeeping duties such as cleaning, cooking, snow shoveling, etc. and assisting at sites with individual’s job duties which may include cleaning, lifting, snow shoveling, etc. Exposure to outside weather conditions while working with individuals.
